Learning Outcome 2
During the development of my paper, I applied Barclay’s formula in introducing, analyzing, and transitioning quotes. This formula played a pivotal role in smoothly and effectively integrating source material into my paper. For instance, Barclay’s formula reference paper, explains how to write body paragraphs. The Barclays formula looks a little something like this: main idea, context leading to quote, introduce a first quote, explain the quote, transition into the second quote, introduce a second quote, add another piece to the second quote, and explore the relationship. Here are a couple of examples of how I used this template to build my essay. The first, is the introduction of the first quote, “ Over time, this reliance, as we have seen, has and will decline our critical thinking skills and intelligence. Turkle’s work further confirms the decline in critical thinking and intelligence. Turkle mentions, “…”” These sentences resonate with the main idea in my topic sentence, and then I further introduced a quote. This is a direct example of Barclay’s formula and how to properly introduce a quote by giving context to the quote before jumping into it. Another example that demonstrates my ability to work with quotes is, explaining the relationship. “ These divergent perspectives between Turkle and Anderson encapsulate the complexity of technology. There is great importance in navigating through both Turkle’s concern about the deterioration of our intellectual capabilities and Anderson’s perspective of capitalizing on the opportunities of the digital age is crucial.” In these sentences, I analyzed the two quotes I referenced earlier in the paragraph and touched on the relationship between them. By providing this it helps deepen the reader’s understanding of my perspective and information about the quotes. In conclusion, the application of the Barclays formula has been instrumental in my essay, it has been the foundation of all of my body paragraphs as I have shown examples of. By applying the Barclays template in my essay, I was able to navigate through both Turkle’s concerns about the deterioration of intellectual capabilities and Anderson’s optimism about the opportunities of the digital age. This allowed me to explore the complex and contrasting viewpoints of the authors, which helped showcase the depth of my engagement with integrating and explaining quotes.
